For transnational bribery, the decision to offer bribes strongly depends on the national background of one’s partner. One’s own nationality, on the other hand, plays only a secondary role. This is shown by a large-scale experiment conducted by researchers from the University of Cologne, the University of Amsterdam and the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin.

After about three years of the Covid-19 pandemic, policy makers and citizens alike are still struggling to find the best way to deal with the virus. Measures need to be effective, but also socially acceptable. A study conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development examined the effectiveness of early Covid-19 measures such as lockdowns and other non-pharmaceutical interventions. The results can shed light on the right balance of measures for dealing with future pandemics.

Large language models (LLMs) have developed rapidly in recent years and are becoming an integral part of our everyday lives through applications like ChatGPT. An article recently published in Nature Human Behaviour explains the opportunities and risks that arise from the use of LLMs for our ability to collectively deliberate, make decisions, and solve problems. Led by researchers from Copenhagen Business School and the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, the interdisciplinary team of 28 scientists provides recommendations for researchers and policymakers to ensure LLMs are developed to complement rather than detract from human collective intelligence.

Online-Schlagzeilen sind in den vergangenen 20 Jahren nicht nur länger geworden, sondern auch negativer und zunehmend auf Klickzahlen ausgerichtet – und das unabhängig von der journalistischen Qualität. Zu diesem Ergebnis kommen Forscher des Max-Planck-Instituts für Bildungsforschung, die rund 40 Millionen Schlagzeilen englischsprachiger Nachrichtenseiten aus den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten ausgewertet haben. Ihre Studie wurde in der Fachzeitschrift Humanities and Social Sciences Communications veröffentlicht.
