Amy Scarpignato is a research ecologist and bird conservation specialist at the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute’s Migratory Bird Center, which is dedicated to understanding, conserving, and championing the grand phenomenon of bird migration. Scarpignato earned her bachelors of science in ecology and systematic biology from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo in 2003, and her masters of science in natural resources/wildlife biology studying the spatial ecology of common ravens from Humboldt State University in 2011.
Scarpignato grew up in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia region.

Tricia Rowlison is a research specialist at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s Center for Species Survival. Rowlison’s research focuses on investigating sperm maturation in the domestic cat model. Specifically, she is analyzing the secretion of small vesicles within the male’s reproductive tract, termed „epididymosomes.“

As curator of Asia Trail and giant pandas, Michael Brown-Palsgrove directs the care of sloth bears, clouded leopards, fishing cats, Asian small-clawed otters, red pandas and giant pandas. He leads a team of 10 animal care staff in the management of these exhibits.

Jenny Santiestevan is responsible for overseeing the care, preservation and management of biological frozen collections, mainly from threatened animal species, stored at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s biorepository in Front Royal, Virginia. Collections maintained in the facility are from other Smithsonian units as well as other institutions. Prior to her work with the Smithsonian, Santiestevan worked as a licensed veterinary technician for domestic animals and as a clinical laboratory technician and manager.
