Our veterinary team visited the giant panda habitat last week for routine checkups on all of the pandas. Of special note in Bei Bei’s check-up, the team successfully collected blood and gave him two vaccinations.

Lilly Parker is a graduate fellow at the Center for Conservation Genomivs. Her research interests include many aspects of evolutionary biology, including population and landscape genomics and phylogenomics, as well as methodology for sequencing DNA from suboptimal materials, including non-invasive, ancient and environmental samples. She is also passionate about science outreach and education, in particular increasing representation of underrepresented minorities and women in STEM fields. Parker’s projects include:

Hank has been very active in the yard despite the heat. It’s not unusual to see him running all over the yard, climbing every tree, and then playing in the pool.

The tiger cubs continue to thrive and are steadily gaining weight. Their coordination is improving as well, and they are exploring all five of the rooms that are available to them.
