Simplon Pass by John Singer Sargent

https://www.nga.gov/artworks/166471-simplon-pass

The demands placed on John Singer Sargent by his unparalleled success as a painter of Gilded Age portraits on both sides of the Atlantic began to tire him soon after the turn of the 20th century. In 1907–1908 he declared that he was „shutting up shop in the portrait line“ to focus on landscapes, informal figure studies (including Nonchaloir [Repose ], 1911, National Gallery of Art), and mural paintings.

The Sacrament of the Last Supper by Salvador Dalí

https://www.nga.gov/artworks/46590-sacrament-last-supper

Its Christian subject matter, simplicity of organization, and lack of shock value separate The Sacrament of the Last Supper from most of Salvador Dalí’s other works. Dalí’s reputation from the late 1920s to the mid-1940s was founded on his surrealist manner and use of Freudian dream imagery.
