Das IBE ist das UNESCO-Büro für Bildungsinhalte, -methoden und -strukturen. Es soll dazu beitragen, das Ziel einer qualitativ guten Bildung für alle zu erlangen. Um dies zu erreichen, bietet das IBE Netzwerke, um sich im Bereich der Curriculumsentwicklung in allen Regionen der Welt auszutauschen, innovative Ansätze im Curriculumdesign zu initiieren, praktische Fähigkeiten zu verbessern und den internationalen Dialog zur Bildungspolitik und -praxis zu erleichtern. Das IBE in Genf unterhält ein Informations- und Dokumentationszentrum mit Bibliothek, in dem Informationen über die Bildungssysteme in den Unesco-Mitgliedstaaten aufbereitet und laufend aktualisiert werden (Datenbank World Data on Education). Ferner wird die Datenbank INNODATA entwickelt, die Informationen über innovative Bildungsprojekte bereitstellt.

Das Netzwerk FLACSO (Lateinamerikanische Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaften) wurde 1957 von der UNESCO gegründet und ist eine internationale Institution mit Zentren in 16 Ländern Lateinamerikas. Das argentinische Zentrum der FLACSO hat seit 1982 eine spezielle Abteilung und Webseite zu Ausbildung und Bildungsforschung. Zentral sind dort die zwei Programme über „Bildung, Wissen und Gesellschaft“ (Educación, Conocimiento y Sociedad) sowie über „Politik, Sprachen und Subjektivitäten in der Bildung“ (Políticas, Lenguajes y Subjetividades en Educación). Ersteres Programm gibt seit 1989 die Zeitschrift „Propuesta Educativa“ heraus, deren Artikel als Volltexte frei zugänglich sind. The Network FLACSO (Latin American Institute for Social Sciences) is an international organisation in research and documentation founded in 1957 by the UNESCO. It has offices in 16 Latin American Countries. Since 1982, the Argentinian office of FLACSO has an area and website for education and educational research. Two programmes are central to this education area: the programme for „Education, Knowledge and Society“ (Educación, Conocimiento y Sociedad) and the programme for „Politics, Languages and Subjectivities of Education“ (Políticas, Lenguajes y Subjetividades en Educación). Since 1989, the first programme publishes the journal „Propuesta Educativa“ whose articles are open access.
