The Government of Canada made a commitment to provide $3.5 billion to improve maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) in developing countries between 2015 and 2020. One of the components of this MNCH commitment included $375 million over 5 years for proposals to the Partnership for Strengthening Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Initiative (PSMNCH). This initiative supported Canadian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in carrying out proven, large-scale interventions to increase maternal, newborn and child survival.

Hiring a domestic worker and related accreditation program

The Domestic Worker Accreditation Program allows certain foreign representatives to employ a domestic worker who will live and work in their private household during the posting period, and subsequently seek accreditation via the head of the diplomatic mission, international organization or special representative office (hereinafter referred to as “head of mission”). Employers must meet all legal, policy and program requirements, which includes the preparation of an employment contract that must be signed by both the employer and the employee.

Summary of the Evaluation of the International Humanitarian Assistance Program, 2011/2012 to 2017/2018

The evaluation by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) of Canada’s International Humanitarian Assistance (IHA) Program demonstrated that from 2011 to 2018, Canada’s humanitarian investments have saved lives, reduced suffering and protected human dignity. Canada disbursed over $5B in humanitarian assistance between 2011 and 2018: consistently in the 10 largest humanitarian donors, with one of the highest proportions of official development assistance (ODA) directed to humanitarian assistance.
