The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) is part of the research network, desiguALdades.net aiming at a paradigmatic shift in the research on social inequalities in Latin America. Key issues of the project are the role of global and transregional interdependencies in the distribution of resources and the improving of the social position as well as the impact of embeddedness of social inequalities into transregional interdependencies.

Zu den größten Herausforderungen für Entwicklungsländer gehört die Schaffung von produktiver Beschäftigung für eine wachsende Bevölkerung. Menschenwürdige Arbeit und Einkommen sind von zentraler Bedeutung für Armutsbekämpfung, verbesserte Lebensbedingungen und soziale Kohäsion. Die Frage ist aber, wie die Entstehung von produktiver Beschäftigung gefördert werden kann; Wachstum alleine kann diese nicht sicherstellen. Darum untersucht das Deutsche Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), mit welchen Instrumenten Regierungen und extrene Geber hierzu beitragen können.
