Hans Mielich was the leading painter in Bavaria in the mid-sixteenth century. His art was greatly influenced by Albrecht Altdorfer with whom he worked in Regensburg from about 1536 to 1538.

Pietro Lorenzetti of Siena painted me in 1340 . This inscription is the signature of the Sienese painter Pietro Lorenzetti , which survives on a fragment of the original frame (now incorporated in a modern support and located beneath the image of Madonna and Child ).
She supports the baby’s bottom with one hand and holds a bunch of red cherries

He looks off to the left and grips the white cloth with the hand closer to the woman

We don’t know their names, but they are a lovely couple. He is dignified, with watch chain, derby, and cane.
He wears a three-piece tuxedo and holds a bowler hat and cane in his right hand,

The sitter initially held his left hand higher, at waist level [fig2].
