Geoff Tracy, of Washington, D.C., graduated from Georgetown University in 1995 with a degree in theology.  He then went on to graduate first in his class at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. Geoff opened the original Chef Geoff’s restaurant in 2000. The restaurant group serves hundreds of thousands of guests every year and employs more than 250 amazing people.

Mia Keady | Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute

Mia Keady is a graduate student researcher at the Center for Conservation Genomics. Keady studies the gut microbiome of captive elephants and the relationship to major health concerns in captivity. She is interested in how microorganisms affect the reproductive biology and overall well-being of elephants. Keady’s projects include: Elephant gut microbiome study Keady earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Nebraska Wesleyan in 2014, and is currently working on her master’s degree at the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University.

Ellen Welti | Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute

Ellen is a community ecologist with expertise in entomology. Her research focuses on plants, insects, and species interactions, the glue that holds ecosystems together. In rangeland systems, she studies the effects of mammal communities, grazing regimes, and management on ecological communities. Ellen also researches responses to alternations to biogeochemcial cycles, a hallmark of the Anthropocene.
