The HKIER develops, supports, and coordinates long-term multi- displinary research programmes. Each of these programmes consists of a number of research projects conducted by researchers of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and other tertiary institutions. Several ongoing policy-related research projects, supported by various funds from the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, have provided a solid foundation for policy research. Programmes of this kind will continue to be developed, making a strong impact on educational policy in Hong Kong and in the South China regions. Das chinesische ERIC Projekt (C-ERIC) stellt nach dem Vorbild des amerikanischen ERIC eine bibliographische Datenbank zur Verfügung. Sie ist nach Autoren, Titelstichwörtern und nach kontrollierten Schlagwörtern (Englisch/Chinesisch BIG5) recherchierbar. Drei Recherchefelder mit und/oder-Verknüpfung stehen zur Verfügung. Ein Volltextangebot ist nicht vorgesehen. Volltexte sind nur über die Originalhefte der in C-ERIC aufgenommenen Zeitschriften zugänglich. Eine List der ausgewerteten Zeitschriften ist vorhanden. Die Datenbank erschließt Literatur zur Bildungsforschung in chinesischen Gesellschaften (China, Hongkong, Taiwan). Die Datenbank enthält auch Doktor- und Magisterarbeiten der Chinese University in Hongkong. Die C-ERIC Datenbank ist kostenlos über das Internet zugänglich und enthält, im Gegensatz zu ERIC, nicht nur englischsprachige sondern auch chinesischsprachige Zeitschriften- und Monographienliteratur.

The website of the HKPISA Centre, run by the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research, provides information on the PISA studies in Hong Kong, which are conducted seperately from the PISA studies in the People’s Republic of China. Among others, you will find a newsletter (only in Chinese) and Research Output / Publications (some of them as fulltexts, including the PISA reports since 2003). The main objective of the C-ERIC project is to use the American Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) system as a reference to provide a bibliographic database. The C-ERIC database provides author, title, keyword search plus full-text search both in English and Chinese ( BIG5). The full texts of C-ERIC documents are generally available from the C-ERIC journal articles. A list of the journals indexed is provided. This project aims to establish a free electronic database of educational studies in Chinese communities. C-ERIC provides information about the Faculty of Education and the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research, and develops a database for educational journal articles in Chinese societies: the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. It also includes theses/dissertations submitted for doctoral and master’s degrees of the Chinese University. The information is disseminated via the INTERNET. The American ERIC only provides citations and abstracts of journal articles and educational documents in English, whereas the C-ERIC database includes both Chinese and English.

The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is an initiative of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The student population chosen for PISA is students aged 15 years. The programme is to be part of an ongoing OECD programme of reporting on indicators in education. The learning domains of reading, mathematical and scientific literacy, together with some other areas such as students‘ familiarity with computers, learning strategies have been chosen to be the foci of PISA. In English the website only describes, basic characteristics, planning and implementation of the PISA study in Hong Kong, but doesn’t present the national results.
