In this letter Marie Seton gives her impressions of the governmental set-up and amount of red tape in India. She describes her reaction to Nehru and makes some generalisations about India. In this letter Marie Seton writes about the problems with Menon and her warning to Nehru of a coming crisis. She asks Moody to help Indira Gandhi to get money to England to help Rajiv (Indira’s son), who is a student there, and suggests that Peggy Ashcroft could put Indira up during her visit to London. Seton refers to the generosity of the Nehru household and the kindness shown to her. She contrasts her relaxed behaviour with members of the Nehru household with the behaviour expected of her at a £500 birthday party her mother threw for Stanley Baldwin.

Marie Seton starts this letter with a description of the room where she is staying. She moves on to discuss the economic crisis in India, the impact of American influence and efforts to isolate India, the social exclusion of colonial minded Westerners, and problems caused by the economic crisis including long working hours for all. Finally she writes about Menon, his condition, his loneliness and the inner conflict instigated by his having been given a job for which he was not suited. She tells Moody of her and Indira Gandhi’s efforts to help Menon.

This letter mainly relates to Marie Seton’s relationship with Elsie Cohen which had been damaged by dealings over the Academy Cinema, which Elsie managed. Seton refers to Hoellering’s alleged perfidy and Donald’s belief that there was a case vis-a-vis the Academy, but that Elsie had left it too late to speak out. The end of the letter consists of general comments on the situation with Elsie. Hoellering was the owner of the Academy Cinema whose actions caused Helene, Elsie Cohen and Marie to loose money they invested.
