Im Rahmen dieser Studie stand die Frage im Vordergrund, welche Auswirkungen eine Ernährungs-umstellung nach dem Vorbild der Planetary Health Diet auf die landwirtschaftliche Produktion in Deutschland hätte und welche neuen Möglichkeiten sich daraus ergeben würden. Dabei wurde die Einhaltung bestehender politisch festgelegter Umwelt- und Klimaziele zugrunde gelegt.

The transformation of the mobility sector is essential in order to meet the Paris Agreement’s goals. A 90% reduction in transport-related emissions by 2050 is needed to achieve climate neutrality. To achieve this, a major contribu tion will come from new technologies: the battery electric vehicle technology is the most promising technology today. The roadmap for the mobility sector therefore focuses on lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). While the global market for this technology is growing rapidly, production and end-of-life are linked to major environmental and social impact concerns. To ensure a just transition, it is crucial to implement high social and environmental standards in production and sourcing along the entire supply chain including end-of-life.

Auswirkungen flächendeckender strategischer Klimaschutzelemente und deren Potenzial für die NKI Das vorliegende Projekt unterstreicht die wichtige Rolle der Kommunen im ⁠Klimaschutz⁠: Die Ergebnisse zeigen die großen Potenziale eines flächendeckenden, ambitionierten kommunalen Klimaschutzes. Damit können die Kommunen maßgeblich zum Gelingen der nationalen Klimaschutzziele beitragen. Eine wichtige Rolle nimmt dabei das Klimaschutzmanagement ein, durch dessen Expertise und Kapazitäten es den Kommunen möglich ist mehr Klimaschutzprojekte zu planen und umzusetzen. Aus den Erkenntnissen ableitend, werden Empfehlungen aufgestellt für die Stärkung des kommunalen Klimaschutzes.

Switzerland has a particularly strong relationship with gold: Not only is 50 % – 70 % of the world’s gold refined in Switzerland, but Swiss banks also play a crucial role in marketing bullion. Switzerland is also a primary hub for upmarket jewellery and watchmaking. Despite their reliance on this precious metal, the awareness of watchmakers, jewellers and end consumers of the risks involved with the gold supply chain is, however, still very low. Many of the largest manufacturers of Swiss watches continue to turn a blind eye and refuse to even acknowledge the challenges. This report addresses the problems head on and serves to raise awareness amongst producers and consumers alike.

Within the road transportation sector, the lithium-ion battery vehicles are playing an important role in the global effort to achieve the targets set under the Paris Agreement. This briefing document summarises the State-of-play and roadmap concept of the mobility sector, including the identification of the main actors in and outside the EU and the challenges within the battery value chain for the mining, production and recycling stages. The findings indicate that the mining of the relevant materials is associated with negative social impacts like human rights violations, conflicts with local communities as well as environmental issues such as water & energy consumption, including the occurrence of toxic materials. Recycling is crucial for lithium-ion batteries at the end of their life cycle, among other things because the risk of thermal runaway is high.
